Loosely based on the european comic "Martin Mystere" the animated series reimagines the title character Martin Mystery and his partner Diana Lombard (now his step sister rather than his fiance) as 16 year olds attending Torrington Academy, a high school in Sherbrooke, Quebec. They work for the covert organization The Centre which like the "Men in Black" secretly protects the people of Earth from extraterrestrial and supernatural threats. Also like the Men in Black not everyone who works for the organization is human. The short and greenskinned alien Billy is one of Martin's best friends at Centre. But Billy doesn't accompany Martin and Diane on their cases, that's handled by Java. Java works in the cafeteria of Diana and Martin's school and is a caveman from 200,000 years ago.
