In May 2002, British journalist Amardeep Bassey and his guide, Noushad, traveled by road from Pakistan to Afghanistan to report on the aftermath of the U.S.-led assault on al-Qaida and Taliban fighters. Their mission went as planned-until they tried to cross the border back into Pakistan. Amardeep was arrested and accused of being an Indian spy. For the next 28 days, he and Noushad endured imprisonment, solitary confinement and interrogations.
