Fishing at the ends of the Earth is today taking Robson to Far East Russia, in the middle of winter. It’s the world’s largest country and he’s heading to the most remote corners. Here, the temperature gets down to minus 30 degrees and the challenge won’t be catching sports fish, it will be catching any fish at all. Robson’s Russian adventure starts in the region of Khabarovsk. He’s seeking out local tribe, the Nanai, on his quest for one of this area’s predators, the Northern Pike. As he enters the village, he seeks out some fellow fishermen and finds himself sitting in the middle of an ice flow with Nanai fishermen, fishing through ice holes with a simple stick and line. Khabarovsk is one thing, but Robson’s journey is to take him further into the Russian wilderness. He’s heading to Kamchatka, joining the native Itelmen tribe for a traditional fish soup. To add to the meal, he’s after the Arctic Char, and he’s trying to impress the tribe with his fishing prowess. Then, Robson journeys nine hours into the Kamchatka wilderness to take on local fisherman Sergei Lukin. As fishing time nears, Robson tries to show he can beat Sergei and the Russian winter.
