BALLOON CREATURES What you need: Balloons (variety of shapes) balloon pump black marker sticky tape. What to do: Blow some air into a balloon and make it into an animal. Blow the balloon up by mouth or use a common balloon pump. The shape of the balloon can help you decide what animal to make. You can draw a face or stick things on the balloon to make a face. If you use sticky tape, be careful attaching objects so you don’t burst the balloon. A long thin sausage balloon can be turned into a fish by putting both ends of the balloon together and twisting one end around the other; creating the fish tail. You can put your face in the hollow and then the fish fins turn into rabbit ears. If you hold the balloon vertical, the fish shape now becomes a rocket. What types of balloon animals can you make? 2. BE A BUG Do you like to dress up, or dress up your toys? Maybe you can dress up as a bug. If you want to be a butterfly, put on some fairy wings or make some wings out of cardboard and decorate them. Some antennae can be made from pipe cleaners, small pom poms attached to a headband. If you like to be a ladybird you can make red wings with black spots. Wear some red clothes and tape some black spots onto your back. You will be spotty ladybirds. What other bugs could you dress up as? What about a spider? You could use black stockings or draught stoppers to make 8 legs. You may like to dress up as a silly bug. What are your eyes made of? Try colour patty-cake pans or swimming goggles. Do you fly, wriggle, or crawl? Do you have wings? What colour are you? How many legs do you have? Ideas for Later TAKE PHOTOS Take some photos of things that you do in the daytime, and of animals that you see. You could also take photos of things you see outside in the street or in your backyard during the day. Then take lots of pictures of things that you do and see in the nighttime. Sort the photos into two groups. You may like to glue them into two books; a daytime book and a night time book.
