Assigned to Nick for her special on police crime, reporter Tawny Teller and her cameraman keep Nick from using his vampire powers allowing the escape of the suspected Follow Home Killer. When Nick complains they are interfering with his job, Lt. Pine insists they be allowed to continue and, when the videotape produces an image of the killer, Nick is forced to admit their presence has helped. Meanwhile, recalling his role as a surgeon during the Civil War Nick remembers the photographer who caught Lacroix feasting on the dead and wounded, and now finds himself forced to deny Tawny's videotape of him being hit by a bullet. After circulating a picture of the suspect, Nick and Schanke are called to a motel where they discover the Follow Home Killer, Maurice Peters. Upon bursting into the room, Tawny's cameraman is hit by a bullet and Tawny steps in to record the arrest and films Nick flying off a balcony to catch Peters. Recalling his struggle with Sullivan many years ago over the pictures, Nick realizes that Tawny will be targeted by the Enforcers, an elderly pair of vampires charged with maintaining their code of secrecy. However, finding his hypnotic powers diminished by the mere existence of the tape, Nick storms off, unable to get Tawny to turn over the tapes to him. Unaware he is actually a vampire. Tawny shows her tapes to an editor at the studio and reveals that there are copies hidden in the building. Having sensed she is in trouble, Nick helps Tawny escape the Enforcers and demands she surrender all the copies of her tapes. Though insisting it is the biggest story of her career, as Nick struggles with the Enforcers, Tawny finally gives up the tapes they have come for. With her evidence gone and again susceptible to hypnotism, Tawny's memory of the tapes is erased.
