This episode is based on one of the stories from "I Was A Teenagers Dwarf", Max Shulman's second Dobie book. Dobie meets a pretty fatalistiically morose French girl who savors the negative things in life. She thinks Dobie is an oaf, and Dobie hates her bleak attitude "like poison" but she keeps coming around and Dobie can't understand why.
