John Robbins was a pioneer in children's television, as evidenced by his starring role in Cover to Cover, one of the finest ITV series ever. The groundbreaking show motivated children to read through a simple premise. Robbins introduced a book and some of its characters. Then, as Robbins drew a sketch of one plot point, a narrator would read a passage from the book. An additional artist would provide twenty or so drawings top complement another passage. Invariably, the narration would stop at a "cliffhanger" moment. Robbins then told viewers to go to their local library and check out the featured book. Production History Cover to Cover started in 1965 as a black-and-white series broadcast in the Washington, D.C. area. When the show caught the attention of a group in Bloomington, Indiana, Cover to Cover produced its first nationally-televised series in 1967. The late Ray Gladfelter was its producer.
