The Wraith is about to be overtaken by the Maelstrom, but interference by a pod of Leviathans allows them to escape. Ren and crew hide out in a cove, where they find a baby Leviathan caught in a patch of Dark Water and save it. Ioz, ever the cutthroat, wants to sell its skin for gold. Ren befriends Baby, as he names it, and wants to help it find its family. Baby quickly turns out to be nothing but trouble, first eating all of Niddler's minga melons, then the vines the crew has gathered to repair their sail, then it tries to swallow the glowing Compass. In their effort to get the Compass back, Ren and Ioz end up trapped with Baby, in a net Bloth's crew is using to fish for food. Bloth takes the Compass, imprisons Baby, and throws Ren and Ioz to the Constrictus. They break a hole in the wall to escape as Bloth sails for the next Treasure.
