Since the duel with Hosokawa and Reycom, Zatch has learned that he has special powers. Eager to show off, Zatch heads to the park to demonstrate his lightning powers to the kids there. But by himself, no lightning comes out of his mouth! Kiyo arrives, wondering what Zatch is up to, to find him bragging to the group of increasingly disinterested kids. Kiyo is furious with Zatch, and scolds him that the lightning that shoots from his mouth is 'a dangerous power that can hurt people!'. The two friends quarrel, and Kiyo takes off in a huff, leaving Zatch alone in the rain. A saddened Zatch wanders around, finding companionship in a lonely stray dog. But soon he realizes his place is with Kiyo. He rushes back home, the little stray dog following behind - and finds a curious pair explaining grave news to Kiyo. It's the blonde-haired Sherry and her unusual partner, Brago, who witnessed the battle between Zatch and Reycom. As Zatch eavesdrops in shock outside Kiyo's room, Sherry explains to Kiyo the existence of a mamodo world, from which mamodo kids have been chosen to come to the human world to battle for the title of king. Zatch is a mamodo! The winner will be the last mamodo kid whose book of spells remains intact. As Sherry tries to get Kiyo to relinquish his red book, an even more fearsome visitor arrives at the house...
