Huey and Riley's constant fighting has Granddad thinking about taking a vacation to get away from it all. At Tom's suggestion, he considers Costa Rica where, in his fantasies, he's being fawned over by a bevy of exotic women. When Tom wants to join him, Granddad worries that he'll put a damper on the festivities and does little to encourage it. Before leaving, Granddad needs to find someone to look after the boys. But because of Huey and Riley's bad reputation with babysitters, Uncle Ruckus is the only person he can find to take the job. However, once Granddad is gone and they cow Uncle Ruckus into submission, Huey and Riley are left to care for themselves. Meanwhile, in order to make sure Tom doesn't join him, Granddad orders the boys to tell him that he's out on an errand. As Granddad makes his way to the Central American resort, Huey discovers that Riley has spent all their food money on flashy new clothes. Rationing what little food they have left, Huey grounds his younger brother, but has to go to great lengths to keep him from sneaking off. Down in Costa Rica, Granddad quickly finds that the vacation he is having is far from the one he dreamt about. And when Tom can't find him to start planning their trip, he begins to suspect that he's been left behind.
