A new tradition was started this year, as NFL seasons began with a Thursday night contest. San Francisco came east to meet the Giants, both of whom would ultimately meet again in the wildest Wild Card game ever. This opening night proved to be a tight game. It took overtime for the 49ers to edge out the Giants, 16-13.
