Welcome to the By the People guide at TV Tome. By the People was a sixteen-part instructional television series intended to cover civics and government for high school students. Appropriately, this series was set in a civics class for high-school juniors. But emotions were to run deep at this high school.
The local board of education ruled this high school would close during the school year, and all its teachers and students would merge with another high school in the district. While preparations are made for "consolidation" (to borrow the euphemism used in the series), the students decide to turn the school building into a youth recreation center. Along the way, the students and their teacher discuss basic needs for a successful government and civic-minded populace: getting and interpreting facts, making judgments, making decisions, voting, etc. There is no editor for this show.
