With Nina's encouragement, Maya asks freelance writer Steve McPherson out on a date. While Steve seems to agree, Maya is stunned when the writer files a sexual harassment complaint against her. And though Maya is determined to straighten out the misunderstanding, Jack insists that she let the magazine's lawyers handle it. Meanwhile, Elliott's new girlfriend stars in a commercial for a hemorrhoid medication. As Maya begins to suspect Steve of bringing the lawsuit simply to make some easy money, she's less than happy when Jack arranges for the staff to attend a sexual harassment seminar. But after it makes her realize that Steve may have gotten the impression that his employment was contingent upon their having sex, Maya suspects she could be guilty of harassment after all. Meanwhile, as a result of the successful commercial, Elliott's embarrassment increases right along with Staci's popularity. On Jack's advice, Elliott decides to return to the way he felt about Staci before she made the commercial. However, as a result of her newfound fame Staci decides to break up with him instead. Meanwhile, when Maya invites Steve in so she can apologize, Jack insists she wear a concealed recording device. However, when the hidden microphone malfunctions during their conversation Maya's efforts to remove it give Steve entirely the wrong idea about her intentions.
