Wanting the best possible education for his baby daughter Hannah, Jack is determined to make sure she's accepted at the Woodbridge School where Maya attended as a child. However, it's only after getting a rejection letter from Headmaster Reilly that Jack learns that Maya once burned down one of the school's buildings. And to make matters worse, he paid to have it replaced while thinking he was making a donation to the school. Meanwhile, Finch is the odd man out when Nina and Elliott bond over their mutual admiration for blues legend Cholera Joe Hopper. Despite Jack's efforts to buy his daughter's way into Woodbridge, Headmaster Reilly is unwilling to budge. Recounting the fire that cost the school a building and Jack so much money, Reilly notes that it wasn't Maya who he faulted, but her neglectful dad. Desperate to prove that he's a changed man, Jack sets out to show to Reilly that he's worthy of having another child admitted to the exclusive school. Meanwhile, their different interpretations of some Choler Unable to make up for missing her childhood piano recital, Jack begs Maya to weigh in on his behalf with Reilly. And while Maya recalls the many times he failed her as a child, she finally gives in and agrees to tell the headmaster that her dad has reformed. But Reilly sees through their ruse, forcing Jack to admit it was all a sham. However, impressed by Jack's determination, Reilly is ready to admit Hannah, unaware that Maya has accidentally ignited another blaze while touring the school's science fair. Finally, as Elliott and Nina search to resolve their disagreement, Finch seizes the opportunity to make them look foolish.
