The mood is anything but good when Birgitte arrives at work. It is the day after TV1's party leader debate, in which Birgitte was unable to explain the New Democrats’ economic policy, and suffered a minor breakdown on screen. Her colleagues are frustrated with the outcome of the programme. However, they are mollified when Birgitte explains that her poor performance was due to surgery for precancerous lesions, and that she is now undergoing radiotherapy.Torben, too, must deal with the choices he has made. His wife Karoline has discovered his affair with Pia, and has demanded that Torben end the affair and transfer Pia to another department.
