Today is Robson’s longest ever journey to catch a fish. It’ll take him three days and five flights to reach his destination; Papua New Guinea. It’s as far from home as he’s ever been and here there are fish he’s never seen before. Papua New Guinea is home to a rare fishing prize; the Papuan Black Bass. Robson is in the remote town of Kimbe, where local Black Bass hunter Riccard Reimann is taking him on the hunt for this trophy fish. Soon, Robson is on crocodile infested waters, chasing a fish that fights so hard it may just pull him in. Then, with dolphins leaping alongside, he and the locals are heading out to the edge of a reef, where they’ll need to pull fish up from depths of over 150 metres. Any fisherman would want all the latest gear for that, but here, Robson’s got just a handline. That night, with an array of exotic fish, Robson joins the tribe for the most well-earned meal of his life. In all of Robson’s travels, he has rarely come across more underfished waters than those around Papua. Together with the only man he can find with a boat big enough, he journeys deep out to sea in search of some real monsters. He’s heard tell of a fish, often nicknamed the Giant Goldfish. It’s actually the Ruby Snapper, and when Robson sees one, he quickly realises how it got its moniker.
