It has been said Ken Houston earned his place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on this night. The bitter archrivals Dallas and Washington had last met on New Year's Eve 1972 for the right to go to Super Bowl VII. Now, in the rematch, Dallas hung tough. It appeared the Cowboys would preserve a tie at RFK Stadium, as quarterback Craig Morton completed a pass to Walt Garrison inches from the goal line. But the Redskins' Ken Houston wrestled Garrison away from the end zone, preserving Washington's 14-7 nail-biter.
