Montgomery's (P.R. PAUL) already strained relationship with his mother, aging actress Melinda MacNeil, nears the breaking point when she steps in as director of the Parent's Night show. Montgomery's irritation stems from his perception that she is using the show as an attempt to display her youth to casting agents and producers, not to showcase the talents of the students. By the end of the presentation, Melinda faces the bitter reality that she can no longer play the youthful ingnue, but must now take older roles. Montgomery also swallows his resentment that her career has taken precedent over his upbringing, and comes to accept her as the woman she is instead of the mother she wasn't.
