Murder is on the minds of two strangers whose lives intersect in deadly ways in A Kind of Murder, an upcoming neo-noir thriller based on the novel The Blunderer by legendary crime author Patricia Highsmith (Strangers on a Train). The 1960s-set story of a bookstore owner (Eddie Marsan) whose wife turns up dead at a remote truck stop, and the architect/amateur mystery writer (Patrick Wilson) who suspects that the man has killed his spouse, Andy Goddard’s film is a uniquely bleak genre effort marked by excellent performances. In the clip, Wilson’s Walter Stackhouse plays host to a dinner party hosted by his wife (Jessica Biel), a woman whose pulled-back hair and strained expressions signal her deep depression.
The red-haired, white-robed military leader appears at a crucial moment in 1983’s Return of the Jedi to brief the Rebel troops before the Battle of Endor. Here’s how Mon Mothma became a part of the Star Wars universe in the first place, and how she ended up back on the big screen after all these years.
The Great Wall has long been talked up as a landmark of sorts: It’s Matt Damon’s first foray into China, Zhang Yimou’s first English-language production and the first film to come out of Legendary Pictures’ continent-hopping strategy. Beyond the casting and the ceaseless onslaught of diverse special effects, Zhang and his Hollywood screenwriters have delivered nothing more than a formulaic monster movie — albeit one transposed to a historically undefined China where generals dressed like Terracotta warriors have already mastered anesthetics, air travel and American-accented English. Telling the fantastical story of the massive battle waged to stop paranormal beasts from invading China, The Great Wall is easily the least interesting and involving blockbuster of the respective careers of both its director and star.
Mindy Kaling is definitely famous — “The Office,” “The Mindy Project.” But it can be tough starring in a movie with Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, and Sandra Bullock. “I thought I was pretty cool,” she admitted while laughing about it to Seth Meyers on Late Night.
An X-wing fighter parked at the corner of Hollywood and Vine. Legions of stormtroopers massing on the Walk of Fame. And stars, lots of stars. All that can only mean one thing: the world premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Just last week, the eighth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise got a new, nonnumerical name — The Fate of the Furious. Directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), The Fate of the Furious will see the return of many familiar faces in our beloved hot-rod crew, including Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Ludacris as Tej Parker, and Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs, the straight-arrow DSS agent.
A 111-minute marathon of slangy idioms and expletives, gross-out gags, and unbridled raunch, some of it funny, much of it merely strenuous
To do Walton Goggins’ enthusiasm at being cast in the Alicia Vikander-led Tomb Raider reboot justice, you should really hear him say, “I’ve got my d–n Tomb Raider saddlebag! I am ready to get lost in a godd–n tomb!” Then again, if you’ve ever watched the Emmy-nominated actor in FX’s Justified or Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, you probably can. Last week, news broke that Goggins will play the antagonist in the film helmed by Norwegian director Roar Uthaug (The Wave). “This director is an extraordinarily talented filmmaker, and Alicia Vikander I’ve met a few times, we have some friends in common, but I just think she’s one of the greatest contributions to any generation of actors, man.
Believe it or not, it has been only 10 years since Emma Stone made her Hollywood debut. Her first TV role came by way of a reality show — winning the role of Laurie in The New Partridge Family. Since then, she’s risen through the ranks thanks to roles in Easy A, Crazy Stupid Love, The Help, Birdman, and The Amazing Spider-Man. Her dreamy new musical La La Land is now open in select theaters, and Stone just picked up a Best Actress nomination at the Golden Globes, so let’s take a look back at the 28-year-old’s greatest red-carpet moments
AMC Theatres is bringing back The Right Stuff to honor John Glenn, the pioneering astronaut and U.S. senator who died last week at the age of 95. The Right Stuff follows Glenn and pioneering astronauts such as Gordon “Gordo” Cooper, Virgil “Gus” Grissom, and Alan Shepard, as it recounts NASA’s Mercury space exploration efforts of the 1960s.
Disney CEO Bob Iger told the Hollywood Reporter that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has “no political statements in it, at all.” That comes after a recent call for a boycott by the self-described alt-right, a political group accused of espousing racist, anti-Semitic, and homo-/xenophobic philosophies. Rogue One co-writer Chris Weitz, whose tweet inspired #DumpStarWars. Weitz offered, “People.
Rogue One is a Star Wars movie unlike any other Star Wars movie. Yes, Darth Vader makes an appearance, and the Death Star looms large over the plot, but the majority of characters — along with key locations and vehicles — are previously unknown to the galaxy far, far away. All the information is culled from previously released Star Wars movies and TV shows, the recently released book Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, as well as interviews with the Rogue One cast and filmmakers, trailers and TV spots, and publicity information.
This year’s Golden Globe nominees for Best Animated Feature include a Polynesian wayfinder, a two-stringed guitar player, a bunny cop, a singing koala bear and … a talking zucchini? No, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association didn’t randomly recognize the latest VeggieTales adventure. Nestled amid high-profile Hollywood nominees like Moana, Kubo and the Two Strings, Zootopia, and Sing is My Life as a Zucchini, a coming-of-age story about a young orphan by Swiss animator Claude Barras, making his feature film debut after a lengthy career helming cartoon shorts.
C-3PO may know over 6 million languages, but Alan Tudyk, who plays new droid K-2SO, is fluent in Star Wars impressions. Tudyk, who also loaned his voice talents to this year’s Zootopia and Moana, steals his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story scenes with a motion-capture performance as a gruff security droid. In this video, Tudyk and co-star Riz Ahmed (who plays Rebellion pilot Bodhi Rook) accept our challenge, giving us such never-before-scene moments as “Yoda doing his taxes” and “Darth Vader having an asthma attack.” Watch it above.
In a series of tweets, creative force behind the franchise indicated the entire concept for Baby Groot had come from him, and that it was largely a means of keeping the character fresh, not to sell toys
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association always, always has a few big surprises when it comes to the nominees for the Golden Globes Awards. Monday morning’s announcement the 74th edition was no exception.

Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy might have shot down talk of a sequel to Rogue One, but that’s not stopping a ragtag band of Star Wars filmmaking fans from taking matters into their own hands. Back in September, Lucasfilm and Disney launched Go Rogue, a series of four stop-motion animated shorts loosely based on the story of Rogue One and starring a bunch of new toys. After the episodes debuted, the Star Wars brain trust asked fans to take action figures and create their own mini-movies with a chance at attending an exclusive early screening of the film at Skywalker Ranch.

Nate Parker’s Birth of a Nation finally earned some major recognition this awards season, scooping up six NAACP Image Award nominations. The one-time Oscar hopeful was greeted enthusiastically at its Sundance debut earlier this year but over the summer a resurfaced rape case against writer-director-star Nate Parker shrouded the film in controversy. The movie has so far failed to receive much recognition from critics groups and awards organizations so far this Oscar season.

Its director dislikes it, critics slammed it — and they're not wrong — but a quarter century later, the Robin Williams-Dustin Hoffman take on J.M. Barrie's timeless tale endures among the kids turned adults who remember it fondly
Kenneth Lonergan’s acclaimed film Manchester by the Sea is one of the most devastating dramas in years, with emotionally rich performances by Oscar-nominated actors Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams. The film comes with a touch of levity, too, thanks in large part to a revelatory performance from its breakout star, Lucas Hedges. You can meet the 19-year-old Brooklyn native (whose father is Pieces of April writer-director Peter Hedges) in the video above as he answers 15 rapid-fire questions about himself.
There are many different things about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to get excited about before it debuts in theaters on Dec. 15. Somewhere on that list would have to be the imposing uniform of Director Orson Krennic, the man tasked by the Empire to oversee the completion of the Death Star. Several of the best shots from the trailers for Rogue One have featured Krennic either meditating or walking.
Universal Pictures released the first trailer for The Fate of the Furious, the eighth film in the blockbuster Fast and Furious franchise, and the sneak peek set a new record for movie trailer debuts.

By Oliver Lyttelton This week sees the release of Rogue One, the first ever standalone spin-off of the beloved Star Wars franchise. Set immediately before the events of 1977’s A New Hope, it also sees the return of arguably the most iconic villain in cinema history: Darth Vader. We all associate the helmeted Sith Lord with the voice of James Earl Jones, who returns for the new film, but in fact he’s only one of many actors who’ve played the character in the franchise. Here are some of the most notable ones over the last 40 years
David Ayer is back in the business of DC comics villains. The filmmaker, who directed Warner Bros.’ all-bad guy comic book movie Suicide Squad, is reuniting with that film’s star, Margot Robbie, for Gotham City Sirens, a feature project that will showcase the top female villains from the DC stable, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Ayer will direct and produce the project with Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the part-time girlfriend of the Joker who is currently DC’s most popular female character.
The United Nations will no longer move forward with Wonder Woman’s honorary ambassadorship amid public uproar. “It is alarming that the United Nations would consider using a character with an overtly sexualized image at a time when the headline news in United States and the world is the objectification of women and girls,” reads the petition.

A woman did not make it to the White House this year, but two other famous ladies, Thelma Dickinson and Louise Sawyer, have entered another Washington institution — the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. Ridley Scott‘s feminist manifesto Thelma & Louise (1991), starring Geena Davis as Thelma and Susan Sarandon as Louise, is among the 25 motion pictures selected this year to be preserved for future generations, it was announced today.
Ellen Ripley, the intergalactic explorer played by Sigourney Weaver in four Alien movies, has long been considered one of the greatest — if not the greatest — action heroines of all time. Both DC (Wonder Woman) and Marvel (Captain Marvel) have hotly anticipated standalone female superhero movies on the horizon, and with this week’s release of Rogue One, the past two Star Wars movies have featured a woman in the lead (after last year’s Force Awakens). “The tide is turning, but hasn’t it been a long time coming?” Weaver asked Yahoo Movies at the New York press day for her latest film, the tearjerking YA adaptation A Monster Calls.

One of the characters in the critical darling, Oscar-contending film La La Land is a struggling jazz musician. Sebastian, played by Ryan Gosling, doesn’t want to adapt and give up on the genre despite the lack of income he’s struggling with. Director Damien Chazelle replied to Yahoo Movies’ Kevin Polowy that, yes, his movie may indeed attempt to preserve jazz … and more.
There is, at first, a thrilling what-if in Jon Spaihts’ screenplay, which concocts a sort of Titanic in outer space, with dollops of “Sleeping Beauty” and Gravity thrown into the high-concept mix. As he showed in his first English-language feature, The Imitation Game, Norwegian director Morten Tyldum knows how to hit the prescribed emotional notes, but subtlety is not his strong suit.
In space, no one can hear you scream — which is an unfortunate set of circumstances for Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson, given that in the upcoming space thriller Life, their astronauts discover the first-ever extraterrestrial bio-organism on Mars, only to soon learn that the critters are far from harmless. It’s a sci-fi thriller about the wonders and dangers of outer space that seems to be cast in an Alien-style mold. ...
