One hundred and thirty candidates from the cream of the Australian military attempt the brutal 21-day SAS course. It is battle for survival where only the fittest survive. Most who start, will never finish. This is a search for warriors.
When the candidates arrive on the course they must strip completely naked and have their kit checked for contraband such as GPS systems or protein bars.
The candidates are repeatedly woken during the night by blaring music and forced to complete brutal PT sessions known as ‘re-training’ as punishments for poor performance on the course.
‘Camp Happy’, where the removed candidates must stay for physical and psychological testing, fills up fast as the men drop like flies. “Maybe I fell in love with the dream, and not the actual reality,” says one man, crushed after being sent home.
Private grilling sessions take place where current members of the SAS delve into the psyche of each candidate and quiz them about their motivations.
Candidate 130 is catching the Directing Staffs’ attention- for all the wrong reasons. The Directing Staff (DS) accuse him of being a façade.
After a dangerous fall, Candidate 42 is rushed to hospital with a suspected fractured neck. When the x-rays come back clear he immediately returns to the course, but he fails the 20km pack march and must pass the re-test in order to continue.
Number 81 is one of the youngest candidates on the course. His fitness should be high yet he also fails the 20km pack march and then the retest. His baby face doesn’t impress the SAS.
For those who make it through the brutal first stage what lies ahead is even worse, as the real test begins.
