Fleeing from the scene of a robbery, John Parsons shoots an off-duty cop, an act that tears the heart out of a close-knit community. He is soon caught and put in a place everyone assumes to be safe to await his trial - Ross County Jail. But Parsons is facing the death penalty and he is already planning his escape. Using sheets and old newspapers, he scales the wall of the recreation yard, runs along the roof, and jumps off. What follows is 83 days of cat-and-mouse in the dense foliage of rural Ross County.
