The determination of Walt and the staff at the Disney studios to give their characters charm and personality and to bring them to life is well known. Art Babbitt, who had animated the Big Bad Wolf in “The Three Little Pigs”, cared so much for Goofy’s character that he lectured the animation staff on how the Goof should be correctly handled, detailing his precise personality and his outlook on life. Babbitt also described the specific ways in which the animation of Goofy should be approached. An extract of that lecture is presented here.
